Beautiful vintage 40's double strand Santo Domingo/Zuni carved bird fetish necklace! The necklace consists of thirty nine (39) hand carved "old style" birds using stones of turquoise, black jet, serpentine, abalone, yellow shell, and white shell. The artist adds 6mm barrel beads of the same stones and shells applied between the birds with 4mm serpentine barrel beads running up each end to the large 1 1/8" long silver cones. The artist finishes by attaching a hand made hook-n-eye clasp. All strung on braided twine. The hand carved birds range in size from approximately 1" long up to 1 3/8" long. There are a couple of broken birds and seems to be one missing bird.

The necklace measures 29" end to end with a wearable length of 15" long. It weighs 78.2 grams (2.76 ounces) and is unsigned. This necklace is very, very old and in great shape for it's age even with the broken and missing fetishes. All hand carved! The necklace came with other necklaces that are Santo Domingo made although the birds lean more towards Zuni craftsmanship. It's definitely indigenous Native American crafted!
