Bold vintage collectors Zuni double turquoise, double snake cast sterling ring by the talented Effie Calavaza (b. 1927 - 2019). Based on the distinctive larger signature print, I’d confidently say this remarkable piece was mainly crafted in the 1970s, prior to the dawn of the 1980s. Effie skillfully combined her artistic talents with the support of her husband, Juan, before his untimely death in 1970. Although it's a bit of a mystery when she began utilizing the smaller signature print that coincided with her daughters joining the creative endeavor, the evolution of her style is certainly fascinating. The heavy cast ring displays two beautifully carved Kingman turquoise nuggets, showcasing their stunning brown matrix set securely into hand-cut serrated bezels. In a whimsical touch, she added two intricate silver snakes, each adorned with striking inlaid turquoise eyes. Both snakes elegantly rest their heads between the captivating stones, with one mischievously leaning on one stone and the other playfully on the opposite stone. The snakes wrap around the opposite stone from which they rest their heads, their tails draping gracefully down the side of the ring, creating an enchanting visual effect. All of these delightful elements are mounted to a robust cast sterling silver band that really ties the whole piece together.
