Item #764E- XLG High End Zuni Four Tier 113 ct. Green or Blue Turquoise Chandelier Earrings by R. Shetima
NEW! Beautiful Zuni high end four tier green or blue turquoise inlay chandelier earrings. The artist uses 56 pieces of inlaid turquoise on one and 57 pieces on the other to create each earring. A total of 113 stones. All set into four (4) sections or tiers along with a row of seven (7) diamond shaped silver spoons hanging from the bottom tier. The first tier has eleven (11) stones with a twisted wire bar across the top and two (2) flat silver drops on each side. The second tier displays thirteen (13) stones on one and fourteen (14) stones on the other earring. The third tier has fifteen (15) stones and the fourth tier has seventeen (17) stones total. The top row of stones are round with the bottom row being teardrop shaped on all the tiers. The artist attaches a long ear hook to the top of each earring. This style of inlay was originally made famous by Zuni mastercraftsman Frank Dishta back in early 1930's and the style has been known as "Dishta Style" in honor of his design. I can only imagine that the reasoning for the second tiers having different stone counts is his way of signing the earrings (older silversmiths were known to purposely leave out some stampwork or create an imperfection as a way for other Native silversmiths to know who made the piece). That or possibly it was done to balance out the design? Only the artist knows?
