Item #862W- Large Vintage Navajo Dragon's Breath Stamped Symbols Ring Sz 6 1/2
Large beautifully detailed vintage Navajo "Dragons Breath" decoratively stamped ring. Although the "Dragons Breath" also known as jelly opal isn't an actual stone and is manmade, it's still very popular and desirable in the southwest jewelry spectrum and has been used in Mexican and Native American jewelry since 30's-40's. I'm not going to jump right out and state it as a 30's-40's era piece, but it does show signs of silversmithing from that time period and I do lean towards that era. The artist has set the jelly opal into a smooth bezel which (here's the kicker) the artist has soldered individual horseshoe or crescent moon wires completely wrapping the stone followed by twisted wire and again with a square smooth silver wire. The setting rises up in a dome style being repousse' from the inside with deep repeat stamped sunrise stampwork around the scallop cut edge of the setting. It's been attached to a full circle split shank band that sports Thunderbird and Snake symbols on both sides.
