Beautiful vintage 40's Santo Domingo Thunderbird necklace! The necklace consists of eight (8) matching side pieces with a large Thunderbird focal piece. The decorative pieces are separated with white bone carved barrel beads. These old Santo Domingo necklaces are highly collectible. Each piece is made with the black plastic casings from old automobile batteries and the white and red plastics of toothbrushes along with other discarded plastics that the artist had easy access to. The turquoise is the only stone used. All strung on a black braided cotton twine. The Thunderbird measures approximately 2 3/8" by 1 3/4" across by 1/4" thick with each of the side decorative pieces measuring 3/4" by 5/16" across by 1/4" thick on average. Those measurements vary slightly due to the primitive craftsmanship and limited tools.

The necklace measures 23 1/2" end to end if figured as such with a wearable length of 14" long. It weighs 60 grams (2.12 ounces) and is unsigned. This necklace is very, very old and in great shape for it's age. All hand carved! The necklace came with other necklaces that are Santo Domingo made.
