Unique beautiful Hopi turquoise storyteller overlay squashblossom necklace. Each blossom silver overlay displays an oval concho with daily activity, a trefold flute with a beautiful blue Sleeping Beauty turquoise nugget in a smooth silver bezel. The first if looking at top left side shows a man making jewelry with a coffee pot setting on ground, man working on large wood stump converted to work table. He’s wearing a necklace and concho belt with a bracelet on the ground. Placed between two cliff plateau. The second down shows a man on a horse, third displays a woman making a blanket, fourth shows woman planting crops, fifth shows man making jewelry. From top to bottom oval blossoms on the right hand sides shows a man offering his crafts to three Yei deities, under that the right second chopping firewood, third one down shows man starting a fire, the fourth concho displays woman cooking fry bread in makeshift oven, and fifth shows woman walking a child while also leading sheep with a stick. The large naja displays a large arched back Rainbow Man deity with a concho converted belly displaying a woman tending to crops. The turquoise stone is mounted in a “cloud” above the woman. All of the storyteller overlay consists of a textured background with polished silver overlay.
The necklace measures 28” long end to end with a wearable length of 16 1/2” measured from clasp down to bottom of the naja. It consists of two (2) horned tubes with shepherds hook-n-eye clasp, one hundred forty four (144) seamed sterling silver 8mm beads, ten (10) 7/8” by 2” long storyteller overlay blossoms, and a large 3 1/4” by 3” across silver overlay Rainbowman Naja. The necklace is strung on silver link chain. It weighs a total of 157.4 grams (5.55 oz or 5.06 ozt) and is hallmarked L with a “Rocker” above the L and Sterling under the L. I’m attributing the piece to Hopi silversmith Lewis Quiyo. $2329.95
